There are three main ways to use essential oils: aromatically, topically and internally.
Aromatically
Aromatherapy has been in existence for decades. It is the art and science of using essential oils to bring about positive change in people. Essential oils can be diffused to cleanse and purify the air and change your mood or emotions.
You can inhale oils direct from the bottle, put a drop in your hand, rubbing them together and cupping your nose or place a drop on a tissue.
Topically
Essential oils are easily absorbed by the skin. The best places to apply essential oils are on the bottoms of feet, spine, forehead and temples and the back of the neck. If there is a particular issue you are dealing with, you can target the oils directly there. So for a headache apply on the temples, for a stomach ache apply around the belly button. To avoid any kind of sensitivity you can dilute essential oils in a carrier oil such as fractionated coconut oil, grape seed oil and almond oil.
SAFETY NOTE
Some areas of the body should be avoided such as the skin around the eyes, eyes and inner ears and broken, damaged or otherwise injured skin.
Internally
Select essential oils can be used internally as dietary supplements supporting many healthy conditions. When ingested, essential oils enter the blood stream via the gastrointestinal tract, where they travel throughout the rest of the body. In order to avoid toxicity, follow proper dosing instructions. Some effective methods of internal use include using oils in cooking recipes, adding a drop to your morning water or in a smoothie, adding oils to a veggie cap or taking a drop under your tongue. Some oils are much stronger than others and should always be diluted or taken through a veggie cap. There are so many benefits to taking oils internally.
